KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA FOR FIRST TIMERS: Itinerary, Helpful Tips, and Budget for Filipinos

Escape to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur is one of top cities in South East Asia. With its close proximity to Singapore, we decided to visit the city as well.

Kuala Lumpur: Capital of Malaysia
Country: Malaysia

Coordinates: 3.1390° N, 101.6869° E

What to eat: I highly suggest trying all of these because they do not disappoint. I love them all! Nasi Lemak with ayam goreng (rice with sambal paste and fried chicken, Roti Canai (Indian flat pancake), Chicken rice (steamed chicken with rice), Bak Kut Teh (pork bone soup)

What to do: city exploration, nightlife

Where to stay: Suns Inn near Paradigm Mall
Ideal time to visit: Try to avoid Holidays since the streets tend to be crowded.
Language: Bahasa Malaysia/Cantonese/English
Currency: Malaysian Ringgit: 4 MYR = 1 USD = 50 PHP (rough estimate)

See complete itinerary below.

Ate Elvie, my cousin and a frequent in Malaysia took us around the area. Since it was just a short stay in KL, we only had two places in mind, the Petronas Twin Tower and Batu Caves.

We took the first bus heading to Kuala Lumpur at 5 in the morning. We booked the tickets a night before heading to KL. It was a 5-hour ride and as soon as we arrived in Berjaya Times Square, we quickly took our breakfast and headed to Paradigm Mall to start with our shopping.

From Paradigm Mall, we took a free shuttle to Kelana Jaya LRT Station and got off at KLCC Station. It is just a few minutes walk to Petronas Towers.

It was the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Weekend when we visited. People roamed the streets and enjoyed  the day with their whole family. Malls and parks are filled with people. The Petronas Twin Towers were also closed during that day.

There were a lot of places to visit in Kuala Lumpur alone. You can book passes for the KL Hop-on Hop-off Bus that could take you to different locations and tourist spots. Here's a sample map of the KL Hop-on Hop-off bus route from soileiragusgonta.

On our second day, we took a grab car to Batu Caves. You can also take the KTM Commuter train from KL Sentral to Batu Caves Station for 2 MYR. From afar, we could already see the biggest statue of the Hindu diety, Murugan.

Climbing up the 272 steps, we were amazed by how huge the cave was. The details of this cave was exquisite. Even the finite features where elaborately made.

Tips:
↠  It is ideal to use USD to covert to Ringgit.
↠ It would be cheaper to travel in a group and splitting cab rides.
↠ Most people speak English.
↠ Book accommodations inclusive of breakfast. That's one less meal to worry about!
↠ Book a flight going to and from Kuala Lumpur via cebupacificair or pre-book bus tickets at easybook if your coming from Singapore.
↠ Try to familiarize yourself with the train map as well as the KL Hop-on Hop-off map. I highly suggest using this bus to see as much places as you can. You can book your bus pass at klook.
