MT. ROMELO AND SEVEN WATERFALLS: Day Trip Hiking Itinerary and Budget

I had a week free from plates so I decided to use that to take side trips near the Metro. So I dragged my best friend to hike and enjoy a few more waterfalls before peak season officially kicks in.

We left Manila around 6am. A bus line in Legarda bound to Infanta, Quezon passes by the drop of point of Mt. Romelo. We asked the conductor to drop us off Buruwisan. You really won’t miss it, a huge signage can be seen from afar.

After a four-hour trip, we arrived in Siniloan, Laguna.

Mt. Romelo is known for its 7 waterfalls, namely, Buruwisan and Old Buruwisan Falls, Lanzones, Sampaloc, and Batya-Batya Falls, Sapang Bato Falls and Diwata Falls. With a height of 240 MASL, Mt. Romelo can be a training ground for beginners in mountaineering. A few minutes from the barangay hall, you will be greeted with a steep assault. Good thing resting stations and stores selling buko juice are situated along the trails, all available for regaining your breath.

After crossing Mt Romelo’s two peaks, you will reach the campsite located on top of Buruwisan Falls.

 BURUWISAN FALLS

The main attraction of Mt. Romelo is the Buruwisan falls. It is the highest and biggest waterfall in Mt. Romelo with approximately 180 feet. The falls was a little bit shallow-- a sign that summer’s just around the corner.

                                    BURUWISAN FALLS

The trek to Lanzones falls was roughly thirty minutes. It is a 70-feet waterfalls with a rocky trail towards it. According to locals, you won’t be able to come this close to the falls during rainy season. The water reaches these rocky trails and swimming towards the falls might be a bit hard due to the rushing of water.

ITINERARY:

There are two ways to reach Siniloan. One is thru Tanay (with a series of jeepney and tricycle rides), and the other is thru a bus which brings you straight to Siniloan. We picked the latter part because it’s hassle-free.

Legarda, Manila to Siniloan: 4-5 hours via Bus | 130PHP | Ride a Raymond bus headed to Infanta, Quezon. Raymond bus line is the only bus line passing along the jump-off trail of Mt. Romelo. Just tell the conductor to drop you off Buruwisan. It is located in Sampaloc, Manila, between Legarda and Pureza LRT Station. Little tip, Buruwisan is a few minutes away after the bus stopover.

Mt. Romelo Registration fee: 50PHP

Guide fee: 300-400PHP | Try negotiating with your guide.

Buko: 15PHP | Fresh off the tree! (Optional)

Buruwisan to Famy, Siniloan Town Proper: 15 minutes via tricycle| 20PHP | From the jump off trail of Buruwisan, we hailed a tricycle that will bring us to the town proper. They’ll drop you off a 7/11 Convenience Store. It is also the Famy Bus Stop.

Famy, Sinoloan to Antipolo: 2-3 hours via FX | 100PHP | We rode an FX bound to Shaw. We just asked the driver to drop us off Puregold, Antipolo.

*Prices may change and time may vary.
