JUNE 30, 2015 - DAY 7
Davao is the largest city in the Philippines. It was also ranked as one of the most livable cities in Asia. We arrived at Davao International Airport around 8am and booked a very lucky tour just outside of the airport. The tour guide was just waiting outside of the airport, waiting for some tourists to hire him. For a sweet deal and a comfy van, we took his offer.
We first visited the Outdoor Adventure Park and Zip City, although all of these were closed when we arrived. According to our tour guide, all ziplines that day were closed, so we headed to Davao Crocodile Park. Located inside are a mini-zoo, most of them crocodiles and wild birds, restaurants offering local foods like crocodile meat and durian-flavored delicacies, and souvenir shops.
We braced our stomachs as we try the Crocodile Durian Ice Cream and Crocodile Coffee Ice Cream made of Civet Coffee. These ice cream were mixed with crocodile eggs. The use of these eggs removes the “foul” smell of durian. The coffee-flavored ice cream was a rather different experience. The coffee was made of civet cat’s feces— quite weird to eat someone else’s poo, right? Although this cup of coffee is considered as the rarest and most expensive brew in the world. This one’s locally made. The Mt. Apo Civet Coffee comes from Philippine civet cats found in Mt. Apo. These civets eat coffee berries and when digested and “dropped” out of their system, are collected and processed to become coffee beans.
If you explore the area deeper, along the restaurants and souvenir shops are Kaonanan, a tribal inspired cuisine restaurant, showcasing local food made from local Davao tribes. Aside from the restaurant, is a local tribal village, Tribu K’ Mindanawan, where you can see a series of traditional and authentic bahay kubo.
Outside Davao Crocodile Park, we passed by the butterfly garden and areas designated for lambs, chickens and ostriches. We headed to Jack ‘J Ridge, one attraction in the place was a World War II Japanese aircraft that was not removed from where it crashed. The place has a restaurant, cafe, outdoor theater and has an overlooking view of Davao.

We went to a Japanese Tunnel where Balinsisayaw birds live. We decided to eat lunch at Liza’s Restaurant at Times Beach. We dine in a bahay kubo with a perfect view of the beach— shady light from the sun, cool and breezy wind and the calm sound of waves crashing in. We loved the local food, ubol-ubol!
After all the food we ate, we were all too lazy to even continue with the challenge! We were all like, “Ugh, let’s just stay here and sleep.”
But the challenge must go on! So for our last stop before heading back to the airport was D’ Leonor Adventure Park, which was a few kilometers away from the airport. The place was the ultimate adventure park. It has a zip-line, wall-climbing area, a wave pool with ranging rivers, segway vehicles, atv cars, mini-golf, a zoo, hanging bridge, surf rider, and a mini amusement park! Aside from all the fun things to do, the adventure park has cottages and a hotel with shuttle service— a perfect family getaway. Meetings and celebrations can also be held in their function areas. The unique thing about D’ Leonor was the abundance of life-size sculptures of characters from cartoons and movies!
